Valencia's pitching kept a nine-inning game in Lancaster close on Saturday, allowing Quartz Hill one run through seven innings before an eighth-inning home run decided it.
Steven Genovese struck out the side in the second and allowed one hit over two innings to start. Valencia scored first in the second: Tyler Lord singled, Santino Cascione reached on catcher's interference, Bodie Johnson was hit by a pitch, and courtesy runner Alex Bramson scored on Ryan Nguyen's double-play grounder. In the fourth, JT Gurne was hit by a pitch and scored on Lord's single for a 2-0 lead.
Quartz Hill got one back on a steal of home in the fourth. Tennysen Enneking followed with two hitless innings and two strikeouts, Brady Ruffner, Bodie Johnson, and Braden Cianci turned a 6-4-3 double play to end the sixth, and Charles Goodman set down the side in order in the seventh. A two-run homer in the eighth put Quartz Hill ahead, and they added a run in the ninth.
Lord finished 2-for-3 with the RBI single, and Ryan Nguyen handled ten putouts at first base. Next up is Birmingham on Saturday.
