The freshmen hosted Granada Hills on the JV Field on Saturday morning and ran into eight pitchers who combined for twelve strikeouts.
Granada Hills scored in the first on a double and added a run in the fifth, while Valencia's pitchers kept it close. Aaron Brenner struck out four over two innings to start, Grant Olsen followed with two scoreless innings, and Chase Costella struck out two in a scoreless sixth.
A three-run homer in the seventh made it 5-0. Valencia answered in the bottom half: Kellan Laroe was hit by a pitch and scored when Jackson Wertz's single was misplayed at third, and Wertz came home on a passed ball. Eric Patterson struck out two in the seventh, and the defense turned double plays in the eighth and ninth, Costella to Caleb Cook and Augie Johnson to Laroe.
Landon Page, Laroe, Wertz, and Brenner had Valencia's four hits. Next up for the freshmen is Westlake on the road.
