Valencia's season ended in the CIF Southern Section playoffs with a 5-4 road loss at Canyon, the Anaheim Comanches.
Canyon jumped out to a 4-0 lead over the first two innings against starter Dexton Otton. Steve Genovese steadied things with four innings of one-run relief and three strikeouts, keeping the Vikings within reach.
Down 4-0, Valencia answered with a four-run fifth to tie it. Kade Breech and Dylan Lapa delivered RBI singles, and Brady Ruffner's two-run single knotted the game at 4-4.
But Canyon retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth, Cam Goetz singled and came home on Dustin Reveles's double, and the Comanches' bullpen closed it out. Valencia put two aboard in the seventh on walks but could not bring the tying run across.
