Rzewuski's perfect debut caps a two-hit shutout at Golden Valley, 11-0

Recap

The freshmen needed only six innings in the morning game at Golden Valley, and the last two belonged to a brand-new arm. Cooper Rzewuski, in his first appearance on the mound, retired all six Grizzlies he faced and struck out five of them on twenty pitches, finishing the combined two-hit shutout Gavin Dunbar started in an 11-0 run-rule win.

Valencia stole the first inning, literally. After singles by Elijah Patlian and Elijah Avlas and an error on Marcus Paikos's hard ground ball, Avlas scored while Jackson Lord was caught stealing on the first-and-third play, and Paikos then swiped home outright, his third steal of the frame, for a 3-0 lead before Golden Valley recorded a second out.

The third inning added five: Paikos tripled, Nate Marroquin and Ryan Kim drove in three between them (Kim with a two-run double), and Kim scored on a wild pitch. Golden Valley's pitchers hit five Valencia batters, and three sixth-inning walks set up run-scoring singles by Marroquin and Brian Shaw to reach the run rule.

Dunbar worked around traffic just once, stranding the bases loaded in the third on a fielder's choice, and finished four shutout innings on fifty pitches. Marroquin went 3-for-4; Lord scored twice without an official at-bat.
