Two days after a 10-0 rout, Valencia blanked Canyon a second time, riding a three-hit shutout from Steven Genovese and Andrew Gomez to a 3-0 Foothill League win and a series sweep.
Genovese was sharp over six innings, scattering three singles and striking out three, and Gomez worked a perfect seventh. Canyon never advanced a runner past second base.
Valencia manufactured just enough. Cole DeYoung walked, stole second, and scored on Justin Gaisford's first-inning RBI single; Brady Ruffner came around on JT Gurne's sacrifice fly in the second; and Gaisford doubled and scored on Jack Yamamura's squeeze bunt in the fifth.
Gaisford led the offense, 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, and a hit-by-pitch, and Tyler Wertz and Charlie Romanelli doubled. Three runs on seven hits, plus two Canyon errors, were plenty behind the pitching.
