The morning half of the Granada Hills doubleheader was the freshmen's tightest game of the spring, and Gavin Dunbar owned it: a complete-game shutout in a 1-0 win in which his own team was out-hit six to two.

Dunbar's day started in a hole, three straight singles and the bases loaded with nobody out, and he walked away untouched: two infield flies and a strikeout ended the first. Granada Hills put its leadoff man on again in the sixth, and Dunbar picked him off, first baseman Cooper Rzewuski and second baseman Elijah Patlian finishing the rundown.

The only run of the game scored without a ball leaving the infield. Jace Lindstrom singled to right in the third, moved up on Miles Shelofsky's walk and a fielder's choice, and trotted home when the Granada Hills pitcher balked.

Both starters went the distance, Granada Hills' #20 allowing just two hits himself. Rzewuski handled nine chances at first, Hayden Jaquez caught both infield flies in the big escape, and game 2 followed the same day.
