Valencia's JV out-hit Hart 10-8 but three errors proved costly in a 6-5 loss at Hart, the first league game of the season, with a seventh-inning rally pulling within a run before the final out.
Casey Nickson manufactured the early lead, singling, stealing second, taking third on a wild pitch, and scoring on Luke Ammerman's single. Hart's three-run third came after an error extended the inning, Camren Ketner clearing the bases with a double, and Valencia chipped back with Braden Cianci's RBI double in the fifth and Aiden Illingworth's tying sacrifice fly in the sixth.
The 3-3 tie lasted minutes: an error opened the bottom of the sixth, and Bayron Correa's two-run single and Austin Thompson's RBI single put Hart up three. Down to their last three outs, the Vikings got Cianci's single and two Hart outfield errors to close within 6-5, but the tying run never crossed.
Caden Cabunoc struck out four over four innings, and the defense had its moments around the miscues: a 6-4-3 double play and three Hart runners cut down stealing, two by Tyler Lord's arm and one on Cabunoc's pickoff.
