Valencia ran into a complete-game gem from Camarillo's Ryan Coyne and managed just two hits in a 3-1 road loss. Both Valencia hits were doubles off the bat of Carter Bennett, who also scored the team's only run.

The Vikings' staff kept it close. Andrew Gomez took the loss but gave Valencia a chance with four innings of one-earned-run ball, and Steven Genovese, Charles Goodman, and Brett Cormany handled the rest. Camarillo scratched single runs in the second, fifth, and sixth, two of them on sacrifice plays, the kind of small-ball runs that are hard to prevent.

At the plate, Coyne was the story for Camarillo, scattering two hits and walking three over seven innings. Bennett squared up doubles in the third and seventh, the only balls Valencia drove all day, and the Vikings drew three walks but could not link hits together. Bennett came around in the seventh on a passed ball after his second double for the lone run.

A quiet afternoon against a strong arm. Valencia's run was unearned and the staff's two earned runs kept it a one-score game, but the offense could not find a second gear.
