Valencia broke out the bats for 13 hits and beat Buena 8-3 at home, scoring in four straight innings. Evan Conrad drove in three to lead the way, and the Vikings never trailed after the third.
After stranding runners in the first, Valencia got going in the third. Cole DeYoung singled and came home on Zach Davis's sacrifice fly, and Tyler Wertz launched a solo home run to center for a 2-0 lead.
The Vikings kept adding on. In the fourth, Kyle Josing's RBI double and Brady Ruffner's run-scoring single pushed it to 4-1. The fifth was the big inning: Conrad's two-run double scored Davis and Wertz, and Josing's sacrifice fly brought Conrad home for a three-run frame. Conrad capped the scoring in the sixth, singling home Justin Gaisford for the 8-3 final.
On the mound, Steven Genovese earned the win with five innings, striking out five and walking none. The two runs charged to him came on a fourth-inning wild pitch and a fifth-inning rally that included a right-field error, so just two of Buena's three runs were earned. Brett Cormany slammed the door with two perfect innings and three strikeouts.
At the plate it was a balanced day: Conrad finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs, Wertz 2-for-4 with the homer, Gaisford 2-for-4 with a double, and Santino Cascione 2-for-2 with two steals. Valencia's 13 hits included four doubles and Wertz's home run.
