The shutout Valencia threw in the morning came back around in the afternoon. Trabuco Hills handed the Vikings their first scoreless game of the fall, 5-0 at the Maranatha field, riding two pitchers who allowed four hits and struck out nine.

The Mustangs never hit Valencia especially hard early, but they never stopped walking and running either: a second-inning RBI single after two free passes, an unearned run on a third-inning sacrifice fly, and a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch in the fifth built a 3-0 lead one baserunner at a time. Steven Genovese struck out five in his three innings, and the defense kept the deficit close, never more so than in the fourth, when Jack Yamamura fired to JT Gurne to pick a runner off third and end the inning with the bat still in the hitter's hands.

Yamamura's day was the story of the loss: eight putouts and two assists without a single plate appearance, six innings behind the plate and a seventh at first base. The offense could not reward it. Evan Conrad's 2-for-2 accounted for half the hits, and the bases-loaded chance in the fifth died on back-to-back strikeouts, before a two-run triple in the seventh settled the final.
