Valencia's pitching staff needed exactly one inning to announce how the morning in Pasadena would go: Dexton Otton threw five pitches, got three fly balls, and sat down.

The rest of the staff took the hint. Justin Gaisford worked three innings on one hit, Charlie Romanelli struck out three over the final three, and between them Maranatha never drew a walk and never moved a runner past second base with a chance to score. Valencia's defense played its second errorless game of the fall behind them, with Francisco Velazquez Jr. gathering five fly balls in right and Tyler Wertz even throwing out a chopper in front of the plate himself.

The offense made two swings count. Cole DeYoung opened the game with a single and came around on Wertz's double to right. The lead stayed 1-0 until the seventh, when Evan Conrad singled, stole second, and scored on Jack Yamamura's two-out line to center.

Two runs, six hits, no errors, and a four-hit shutout with no free passes: the tidiest box score of the fall, and the first half of the Pasadena doubleheader day in the books.
