Fall baseball is for finding out, and Valencia used a nine-inning Saturday at Simi Valley to find out plenty: eight different pitchers took the mound, three catchers worked behind the plate, and nineteen players batted in a 10-2 loss that was more laboratory than scoreboard.

Simi Valley built its lead in pieces: two first-inning runs on a pair of RBI singles, two more in the fourth around walks and an error, and a three-run fifth capped by a two-run double and a sacrifice fly. The Pioneers' nine-hole pressure never stopped, and their #22 finished 3-for-5 with three RBI.

Valencia's swing of the day came in the seventh. Santino Cascione lined a single to center and Charlie Romanelli followed with a two-run homer to left, the program's first fall home run in the captured record. Romanelli doubled up on the mound with four strikeouts across the seventh and eighth.

The rest of the staff took an inning apiece, and some of the auditions sparkled: Brady Redin struck out two in a perfect third, Brett Cormany fanned three in the sixth (two completed at first on dropped third strikes), and Tee Intharachalit worked a clean ninth. Behind the plate, Jack Yamamura threw out two runners and started two dropped-third-strike outs in three innings. Cole DeYoung's two hits, including a bunt single, led the offense.
